Drag Queens are our Friends

Despite being a little gloomy and gray all weekend, we had such a fun time at brunch on Sunday!  The girls and I met my aunt and cousin and took the Metro to the Adams Morgan neighborhood in DC.  It was KJ's first time on the train (she really, really wanted to ride the subway in NYC but we really didn't need to) and, obviously, her first time at a Drag Queen Brunch!  The food was very good, the mimosas were flowing and the entertainment was great!

While we were gone Cosmo packed up the rest of the Christmas decorations, I just have my Christmas china to properly pack up.  It will be nice to have the house back to normal (whatever that is!).  Saturday the girls cleaned their closets and also organized the guest room closet for me.  New Year's was pretty quiet.  KJ had a couple of neighborhood friends over.  Nice group of kids who made a point of coming upstairs and saying hello to us.  Of course, one of KJ's friends told her "your sister's pretty hot" and they're all intimidated by Cosmo.  Which is so funny to all of us.

Weird, Wet Wonderful Sunday

Favorite Day of the Week!  And it's pouring to boot!  Yay!  Love a good, relaxing Sunday!  And, let's not forget, Vikings season finale tonight on the History Channel!  Such a great show!  Hate that the season is over but it has been renewed!

Finished reading "Wedding Night" by Sophie Kinsella (eh; definitely not my favorite Kinsella book).  Started reading "Paris" by Edward Rutherford (he's not following his usual formula and that's OK!). 

The Hoover Varsity lax team is spanking Oak Mountain as I type in play-offs.  I went to the Spain Park game the other night and we lost (thus ending our undefeated season) so I think I'm the bad luck charm.  I'll just stay away from now on.  I'm good with that. 

My parents are here and today (in the pouring rain!) my dad planted all my flowers for me since I have a black thumb.  His "yuppie" granddaughter helped him for a little bit but the rain got to be too much for her.  The two of them also painted my mail box and the post on Saturday.  Good, quality grandparent/grandchild bonding time. 

T was at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville this weekend for a fraternity prom.  She's texted a few times and sounds like they had a good time. 

Sunday

Saw this on Pinterest yesterday and made me think about how much I enjoy my Sunday's!

Sunday is always a relaxed, easy-going day in our house. Always has been, always will be. For the most part we don't have anything going on.  Once in a while Coach will have a BamaLax practice or KJ might have a vball tournament but Sunday's are very chill in our house.  Coach always makes a big Sunday breakfast or gets bagels, we have a nice family dinner and just prepare for the upcoming week . . . review our family calendar, get some laundry done, etc. 

I also like to do some "maintenance" on Sunday's.  I deep condition my hair, tweeze my eyebrows, exfoliate and put a masque on my face, etc.  Although I love to try to new products, my skin-care routine is pretty basic:  cleanse, tone, moisturize.  I don't wear heavy make-up, I'm not a sun-worshipper (my moisturizer has an SPF to it and I always, always, always wear a hat when I'm outside), I drink tons of water and I stay away from greasy/fried foods.  And, I don't try any wild or crazy treatments (i.e., bird poop or placenta facials).  I think the most radical thing I've ever done to my face is the series of microdermabrasion treatments I had after KJ was born.  My hyper-pigmentation was at it's absolute worst and showed no signs of improving.  Even though everyone told me it would fade, I was horribly self-conscience about it.  I had it when I was pregnant with T and it seemed even worse when I was pregnant w/ KJ.  Cosmo bought me 5 or 6 microdermabrasion facials and after each treatment the aesthetician also used a lightening cream on my face and that did wonders.  Other than my bout w/ melasma, I have pretty decent skin.  I guess I inherited it from my folks == at 65 and 66 respectively, my mom & dad don't have any wrinkles and don't look their age.  My dad says it's our good Polish skin. 

Sat-Sun

Nice relaxing weekend before the craziness starts. The calm before the storm. Actually, the storms rolled through here Saturday afternoon and apparently a house in nearby Lake Cyrus was struck by lightening.


Had such a nice morning with T! She's been cleaning and organizing her room for the last couple of weeks. She went through all her clothes, her closets, etc. and wanted to start senior year off fresh. She wanted to find a way to organize all her jewelry and saw a craft she wanted to try. We went to the antiques store and found a window frame with 4 panels. It was very shabby chic looking and had already been painted a cool green. She kocked out the glass, cleaned up the frame a bit and alternated cork board and chicken coop wire and hung the window horizontally rather than vertically and now has an awesome jewelery organizer on her bathroom wall.

Saturday morning the photographer called and asked us to come down to the studio to take a look at some of T's proof's so they could start working on her senior model cards. She looks totally badass in the lacrosse photos and I love the photos of her in her pointe shoes. After our errands, we met Cosmo up at the lax store and had lunch with him. T stayed and closed up the store like a good daughter so daddy could go home and chill for a bit.

Saturday night was very, very relaxing. We rented a movie with KJ and had some nice family time. Just as I was about to go to bed, The Boy showed up and hung out for a while.

Woke up Sunday morning, everyone chipped in and helped clean. T played soccer mom and drove KJ to lax practice and then actually stayed to help the middle school team and to get some reps in herself. Cosmo bbq'd tonight, homework is done and backpacks are ready for tomorrow.
