I've been meaning to blog about this for the last couple of days but kept forgetting.
I'm sure by now you've heard that Ingrid Betancourt, was rescued after being held for 6 years by leftist rebels in the Columbian jungle.
When we were in Paris, there was a wonderful photojournalist display in one of the parks depicting current world images. One of the photos was of Betancourt. I explained to T who she was and what had happened to hear. How amazing to read of her rescue!
From MSNBC:
"Betancourt was campaigning for Colombia's presidency when she was kidnapped in 2002. She became a cause celebre in France, with her portrait hung on town halls and constant street rallies by supporters.
She was freed Wednesday in a daring Colombian operation involving military spies who tricked FARC rebels into handing over Betancourt and 14 other hostages without firing a shot."
