Coming Along Nicely

Finally feeling like we've settled in and finally got around to taking some photos of our bedroom and KJ's room.  Our room is gigantic, almost a little too big.

Here's a photo of KJ's room.  A little smaller than her room in B'ham and she didn't want to loft her bed so the desk part is in one of the guest rooms.  She said she's been sleeping better than she ever has but I think a large part of that is because we're upstairs with her.  She positively hated being the only one upstairs in the old house.  If T was out of town or at a sleep-over, KJ refused to sleep upstairs alone and would spend most nights on the couch.  And it got worse when T went off to college.  Even at a young age, I'm talking 2 and 3 years old, we'd find her asleep everywhere but her own bed.  She'd get out of her toddler bed and try to get in bed with T, we'd find her on the floor in T's bedroom and then T got smart and started to shut her door at night.  We'd find KJ curled up like a ball right outside T's door.  It was so pathetic!  Then KJ realized she could come downstairs to the master bedroom and she'd try to get in bed with us or we'd find her on the floor in our room with her favorite blankie.

Started some of my Fall and Halloween decorating but I've got more I want to do.  It's raided the last couple of days so I haven't done anything outside.  I did, however, manage to get my table started.

The water goblets are a new addition this year.  My mom picked them up for me at a garage sale.

The sparkly pumpkins are in the living room and I have a few other things to go with them.  A purple sparkly skull for one.

Halloween Decor

Luv, luv, luv this post from Beaux reves!  Her dining room looks amazing!!!  http://beauxrevesamore.blogspot.com/2012/10/haunted-dining-room.html

I've started my Halloween Decorating but really just haven't gotten far.  The last week in September T came home and everyone went to the Ole Miss vs. Alabama game.  I got some cleaning done but no decorating.  The first weekend in October KJ was finishing up volleyball so I didn't any decorating that weekend either.  This last weekend was the annual Cos Family Celebratory Triad so the only decorating I got done was birthday party decorating.

I've really been into glitter the past couple of years (Pinterest influence perhaps??).  Right now I have a purple glitter skull sitting on a large black candle holder and some pumpkins totally decked out in black and orange sequins and glitter.  I also have KJ's Halloween cat painting on one end of the mantel and a long, horizontal black and silver Halloween wooden sign in the middle.

I'm also a sucker for the whole Pottery Barn / vintage / traditional Halloween look.  I like simple, clean lines and like a monochromatic color scheme with pops of color.

I luv, luv, luv a great decorated buffet!

Really, really into skulls this year.  I think when the kids were younger I decorated in more of a "Happy" Halloween style -- cute pumpkins, patchwork scarecrows, sweet, not scary or threatening.  Now I think my decor has evolved into more of  "Classy Scary."  I don't like blood or gore but do like to set an elegant, appropriate table or buffet.

Is this what they mean when someone says, "I'll have your head on a platter??"

Glitter is our Friend

So happy when I saw Lily Lemontree's post the other day! If it's a special enough occassion to get dressed up, go all out and don't skimp on the shine!

In my personal opinion, you can never have too much glitter (or sequins). I luv, luv, luv glitter and think a little glitter makes everything so much better!

Eva Longoria and Taylor Swift both believe in the healing powers of sequins (as does Carrie Underwood, Kate Winslet, Nicole Richey, Anne Hathaway).

Lots of Glitter is a Good Thing !!!

Luv, luv, luv the way the house is decorated this year! I've got some new things and always try to mix things up. There's a lot of glitter this year and I really like it!

This is a photo of our family travel tree. We always try to buy an ornament everywhere we go and the Alpine tree looks so pretty in the foyer.
Hard to tell in the photo above but the two "presents" are covered in glitter and the polka dot one opens up and holds a tea lite. The three green vases in the back to the far right I got from work. They must have been left over from a wedding or some other event because there were dozens of them! I thought they'd be cool for Christmas decorations. Not sure yet if I'm going to put something in them (like silver, glitter tree branches?) or just leave them alone.
Really into "subway art" this year (hello Etsy my old friend!) and have some similar decorations for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Again, hard to tell but the wording is all done is red glitter. Looks very pretty when the tea lights in the red votive holders are lit.

The silver placemats in the dining room are new this year. My mom doesn't like the napkins and napkins rings on top of the plate because it hides the Christmas tree pattern.

But this is what my table really looks like. My mom made those napkins rings years & years ago when she used to do ceramics as a hobby. There are 8 of them and a couple of years ago one of the stars broke off (Cosmo fixed it w/ gorilla glue).

I can't remember what I did for last year's centerpiece so I tried to stay with the red & white snowflake theme of my table linens. This is a wrought iron cake stand, a clear glass plate with bubbles and some ornaments and candles. Some of the candle holders I had, a couple I purchased this year.

And here's the complete table. I love the layered look and using all of my different glassware. It drives the girls insane and they say the table is too busy. The red champagne glasses I've had for years and also use them for Valentine's Day and 4th of July. Can't remember where the snowman glasses came from but the Christmas tree highballs were a housewarming gift from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law when we first moved into this house and they match my dishes. Have no idea where the hand-painted peppermint wine glasses came from either (maybe a dirty Santa one year??).

Compliments of "Oh, My Darling"

What Does Your Favorite Glitter Shoe Say About You?

I've always been a sucker for a fun personality quiz, so I'm turning this secret love into a new, tongue-in-cheek feature. This week's quick personality quiz is: what does your favorite glitter shoe say about you? Pick your favorite pair and get ready to gain some really important insights into who you are as a person.

Steve Madden Glitter Oxford: You seem like a practical girl to the world, but you have a secret love of glitz and glamour. You like to browse through the shelves at used bookstores and buy turnips at the local farmer's market. Sometimes you dance around your apartment, when no one else is around, and rock some serious jazz hands, while saying "JAZZ HANDSSSSSS" with lots of extra S's. Also, you are clumsy, hence your tendency to wear flat shoes. No judgment, everyone trips.
Kate Spade Charm Peeptoe: You're a sophisticated lady with a wild, multicolored sparkly streak. You are fond of to-do lists and day planners (bound in chic leather, of course), and you predicted the macaroon craze months before it happened. You're pretty sure that munchkin donuts will be hot next, but you'd never brag about having such keen baked goods trendspotting knowledge. Also, you are probably getting married in the next year because, let's be real -- Kate Spade shoes are a splurge best reserved for a very special occasion.
Miu Miu Glitter Platform Pump: You're fashion-forward with an extra dose of funkiness going on. You're capable of wearing these shoes to work without getting any weird looks, and most of us are totally jealous of your ability to pull that business off. You always either know or correctly guess the secret password at those speakeasy-style bars that are so big right now and, once you make it through those unmarked doors, can down champagne cocktails like nobody's business. Also, you don't own any clothing that involves fleece.

Promise Titanic Blush and Gold Glitter Platforms: You are a really cool person. You work for a nonprofit and/or go to great lengths to recycle things, mysteriously know how to contradance despite never taking lessons, and make a risotto so good that it once brought an entire dinner party to tears. You made out with a member of Animal Collective back in '08, but have mostly kept quiet about this (except during an intense game of "Never never have I ever," which is excusable). Also, I totally want to be your friend, especially if you wear a size seven shoe and are open to sharing these beauties.
