Met Gala 2018

In case you've been living under a rock this week or your internet's been out for a few days, Monday was the annual Met Gala (formally known as the Costume Institute Gala).  Held the first Monday of each May, this year's theme was "Heavenly Bodies:  Fashion and the Catholic Imagination."  The exhibition runs until October 2018 and includes pieces donated from the Vatican.

Like everyone else who was live tweeting that night, I love seeing the different interpretations of the exhibition (while the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute annual charity affair is not a "themed" event, many guests and designers choose to wear creations with a (sometimes not so) subtle nod to the show.

While I may not necessarily like some of the outfits, I do appreciate the beauty of the workmanship and design.  Here are some of the thoughts I had while sitting on the couch in my sweats and being all judge-y:

I thought Amanda Seyfriend looked like she stepped out of a Raphael or Bottecilli painting.  Her hair, make-up, gown and accessories were stunning!

I mean, come on.  That close-up is pure perfection.  When she turned and looked at the cameras, she owned that moment.

Cardi B.  She's a couple of months pregnant and looked radiant.

I love Gigi Hadid and her gown was reminiscent of a church stained glass window.

J-Lo.  That leg!

Kate Upton played it safe but from the shoulder's up she looked like a Renaissance princess.

Kim Kardashian.

While I respect and support the message, the presentation just seemed off to me.

Lynda Carter (the original Wonder Woman).  Regal.  Elegant.

Madonna

Rosie Huntington-Whitley.  An angel.

Rihanna.

Scarlett Johanssen.  This was awful.  There.  I said it.

Sarah Jessica Parker reminded me of the Queen of Hearts.

Zendaya's take on Joan of Arc.  I like it.

At first I did not care for this look (that hair bow was throwing me off) but the Vera Wang gown is basically, incredibly, the Sistine Chapel.

I love the edgy boots and her make-up was flawless!

Olivia Munn.  This outfit looks better in black and white.  The color really didn't suit her complexion.

Love Ashley Graham.  I think this would be better for an awards show, the Oscars or the Grammy's perhaps.  A little too safe.

Super Duper

Super Bowls are usually overrated, horribly boring games.  I have to say, last night's game was much, much better than I had anticipated.  Yes, we still hate Tom Brady in our house.  That's never going to change but honestly, the Pats played smart and deserved the win.  I can NOT believe the Seahawks didn't just hand it off and run it in.  What in the Hell was Pete Carroll thinking???

I honestly did not watch one single commercial so I can't comment on any of those but I did think Katy Perry's half-time show was great!  I'm not a big Katy Perry fan (I don't think she's that great of a singer.  Entertainer, yes.  Singer, not so much) but I was pleasantly surprised and think she'd be great to see in concert (I remember a couple of years ago T saw her at the Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil in B'ham and said she was fun).  I loved her costumes and thought the first one was a little Hunger Games-ish but when she came in on that Tiger??  Wow!  And that gown she wore as she floated over the stadium???  Amaze-balls!  Looked straight out of Miss America!  I was most looking forward to Lenny Kravitz and was terribly disappointed in his playing time.  IMHO, Lenny Kravitz is a rock God and could have handled the half-time show on his own.  The biggest, best surprise to me was Missy Elliott.  She looked great, sounded great and totally stole the show.
http://kfor.com/2015/02/01/missy-elliot-steals-super-bowl-halftime-show-from-katy-perry/   While Perry did a great job when she was on stage solor, she looked like an awkward white sorority girl trying to keep up with Elliott during their shared stage time. And I hated the whole hair flinging thing with Kravitz.

KJ said her favorite half-time show wasn't Katy Perry or Beyonce but Madonna from 2012:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmqiP3OXC74

Meanwhile, Coach said this particularly year (1991???) was his own personal favorite:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSJ8T2wlISo

KJ-ism

We haven't had a KJ-ism in a while but tonight she dropped this little ditty in the car while singing along to Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night":  Lawrence off of my arrest (warrants out for my arrest).  In all fairness to KJ, she said she had no idea what a warrant was.  Which, I think, is a good thing.

I have never seen this video until now and had no idea that was Kenny G playing the sax in the song!

Grammy Recap

I've never been a TSwift fan and Nikki Minaj's performance at the Grammy's was disturbing.

I am not a country music fan at all. I'm sorry. I just don't like Miranda at all. She always looks pained or something.

Love the Foos and this photo of them holding hands like a bunch of teenage girls just cracked me up. They totally rocked it last night!

KJ yelled, "OMG! You can see her UNDERWEAR!!!"

I normally love Carrie Underwood but this seems a little "old" for her. She has incredible legs and should be showing them off!

This is one bad-ass Gramma. I hope to be this cool when I'm her age.

Absolutely gorgeous. Her hair, her make-up. That voice! I love her CD and listen to it at least twice a day at work!

Obviously the big news this weekend is the sad passing of Whitney Houston. We were at KJ's volleyball tournament when one of the mom's said, "Oh My God! My T-Mobile News is saying Whitney Houston is dead." Another mom said, "It's probably just a hoax. Didn't they say Bon Jovi had died recently, too?" I checked my twitter feed as the night went on (yeah, I know. Not the most reliable news source) and sadly the rumors were true. One of those weird, surreal, generational moments. Like when Elvis passed away or John Lennon was shot. Or when you heard that Michael Jackson was gone. She had a beautiful amazing voice and I remember being a young girl and seeing Whitney Houston in the pages of Seventeen Magazine.

I liked the fact that the Grammy's acknowledged Whitney's passing but didn't turn it into the Whitney show. LLCool J had some kind words during the opening segment and Jennifer Hudson's tribute was beautiful. I liked the memorials thoughout the show -- Alicia Keys & Bonnie Raitt honoring Etta James, the Beach Boys tribute and who didn't love Glen Campbell singing Rhinestone Cowboy??!! He sounded AMAZING!!! Bruce Springsteen sounded and looked great, too!

I love these little girls!!!

This dress is beautiful but she needs a little more support in the boob area. Oh, and ditch the blue hair. She looks like a Smurfette!
